A practice focused on architectural design as a response to context, use, and spatial experience.
The project seeks to address the existing rupture between the large green corridor of the Zambujal neighborhood and the Terra da Eira Park, while simultaneously establishing the road connection from Rua da Murgueira to Rua Dr. Luís Madureira. Along these connections, it was crucial to integrate sports and leisure programs in order to enhance the neighborhood, increase its usage, and create a smooth transition between the area and the park.
Composed of three separate volumes, the project follows the design logic of the Zambujal neighborhood proposed by architects Vítor Figueiredo, Duarte Cabral de Mello, and Jorge Gil. These volumes aim not to dominate the landscape, resolving the relationship between levels discreetly and naturally. The roofs are designed to continue the green coverage, hosting various programs: a sports headquarters that addresses the height relationship with surrounding buildings; a kiosk; and, finally, a public swimming pool.
The volumes appear as large stone blocks, internally excavated, with skylights on top and cantilevered openings reinforcing a sense of weight and material density. At the lower level, all accesses and internal relationships are situated. This creates a large square with a reflecting pool that extends into the interior of the pool volume. The central volume houses a multipurpose sports pavilion, and the third volume comprises a multipurpose space. Concrete is the material that shapes this concept, with a rough exterior texture reminiscent of raw stone, while the interior surfaces are smooth and refined.
